Sneak peek at hot bikini trends at Swim Collective

It’s a mix of cowboy flair combined with exotic European chic.

The model wearing the deep purple L*Space bikini can’t help but shake her shoulders, making the fun fringe tassels sway side to side.

“She shakes every time she puts it on,” said swimwear creator Monica Wise of the Audrey Fringe design. “We created this look five years ago, and it’s still going strong. I just can’t keep it in stock.”

Swimwear makers from all over have incorporated the playful look this year, and it was just one of the big trends unveiled recently in Huntington Beach at the Swim Collective show, where brands showcased their designs for buyers and retailers looking to stock their shelves for spring and summer.

The Swim Collective – which showcases what’s hot in next season’s designs – started three years ago after the ASR tradeshow folded. Swimwear companies, especially the more high-end brands, needed a place to showcase their products, said Shannon Leggett, the show’s executive producer.

“We’re more of an upscale, sophisticated show. Our buyer is boutiques, swim specialty, department stores, and luxury resorts,” he said. “Really, Orange County is the industry capital. This is in their back yard.”

The Swim Collective at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa is held twice a year – the first a few weeks ago. The larger show that will showcase 2013 looks is held in August with 200 exhibits in a 30,000-square-foot space.

The smaller show had 55 booths with 400 brands from around the world, many from the local area. We chatted with a few brand reps to find out what the new styles will be this upcoming season.
