The big swells are gone, but there’s plenty of fun, clean waves remaining through the week.
OrangeCounty.com photog John Salanoa was out shooting Newport Monday, see who he snapped shots of here.
Here’s an update from Surfline about what to expect this week:
Weather:
Along the coast, we’ll see similar conditions to what we’ve experienced lately: Cloud cover will gradually increase through the nights for each early morning, but then it will clear up again with sunny skies through the morning hours and stay clear for each day. Beach temps will be pleasant and reach the upper 60s to around 70 degrees each day, but can be rather chilly with the afternoon sea breeze.
Water temps remain on the cool side; North Orange County has water temps in the lower 60s, with South Orange County up to a few degrees warmer and in the mid to upper 60s. Wind will be light and variable Wednesday through Friday mornings, with moderate west wind building each afternoon.
Waves:
A new south-southeast ground-swell will move in and top out on Wednesday as an old south swell fades out. Look for mostly 2-foot-to-3-foot surf (knee-waist high) at the better breaks in the county. Standout spots (strongest overall for North OC) see inconsistent sets up to 4 feet (chest high).
Also, a smaller/minor northwest wind-swell will mix in offering some peaky waves for beach breaks that are openly exposed to the swell combo. Expect similar sized surf and peaky conditions for Thursday as the south-southeast ground-swell and northwest wind-swell hold steady.
The surf will then slowly, but gradually back down Friday and the weekend, as the swells fade. Be sure to stay tuned to Surfline.com for more details, and for what lines up in the long range.
Have fun, be safe, and we’ll see you out in the water!
